Ontario's First Eco-Herd
Natural land care using Ontario's first Eco-Herd. Better for the soil, the pollinators, and the planet.
How Prescribed Grazing Works
Prescribed grazing is a land management practice that uses animals, rather than machines or chemicals, to manage vegetation. Our Eco-Herd targets invasive plants, reduces excess vegetation, and supports soil health while helping protect native habitat. It is land care that is deliberate, low-impact, and naturally effective.

Read about Site Assessment→We arrive with a working Eco-Herd, portable electric fencing, water, shelter, and a trained Eco-Shepherd. The goats get to work quietly and efficiently, managing vegetation in areas that may be difficult for machines to access.
Read about Goat Deployment→Repeated, well-managed grazing can reduce pressure from invasive plants, support soil health, and create better conditions for native vegetation and pollinators. We monitor results and adjust the grazing plan based on the goals of each site.

Our Story
Goats in the City was created from a simple belief: land can be cared for in a way that works with nature rather than against it.
Our Eco-Herd provides a practical, low-impact way to manage invasive vegetation, restore challenging landscapes, and bring people closer to the land.
Every project is guided by careful planning, responsible animal care, and a deep respect for the goats who make the work possible.
Behind the company is a lifelong connection to goats and a family story that shaped the mission from the beginning.

Goat Haven
Goat Haven provides a safe, lifelong home for goats who need care, stability, and dignity. Some come to us through rescue or surrender, while others retire from working life with the herd. Once they arrive, they are part of our family for life.
Our goats return each day to pasture, shelter, familiar companions, and the people who care for them. Goat Haven reflects our promise that their wellbeing will always remain at the heart of the work.

Innovation
Our goats do the natural work. Our technology helps us measure, monitor, and continuously improve every project, from site assessment through project completion.
Every project begins with a site assessment, clear grazing goals, and a plan tailored to the land.
Our trained team manages the herd, monitors conditions, and adjusts the grazing approach as the work progresses.
We use practical technology, including mapping, photography, and selected tracking tools, to support animal oversight and project documentation.
We document progress and provide clients with a clear record of the work completed and the condition of the site.
Project Highlights

Buckthorn and other woody vegetation were beginning to change the structure of the urban meadow, while important native plants and active bird habitat needed to be protected. The Eco-Herd targeted woody growth through carefully monitored prescribed grazing, allowing our team to manage vegetation pressure while closely watching milkweed use and wildlife activity.

Dense buckthorn and other woody invasive growth required a management approach that could be repeated over time. The Eco-Herd targeted the leaves and branches and, in some cases, stripped bark from the stems, placing additional pressure on the plants without chemical herbicides.

Dense phragmites created a difficult vegetation-management challenge within a municipal natural area. The Eco-Herd entered the dense growth and browsed accessible leaves and stems, reducing standing vegetation and placing pressure on new growth without chemical herbicides.

O'Connor Park includes a sensitive wetland and pond habitat used by turtles and other wildlife. Invasive vegetation around the wetland needed to be managed while protecting water quality, habitat function, and the animals using the site. The Eco-Herd provided a carefully managed, low-impact option for reducing vegetation pressure around the wetland while keeping habitat protection at the centre of the project.

Overgrown shoreline and woodland-edge vegetation was affecting views, access, and the appearance of the course in areas that were difficult to manage with conventional equipment. The Eco-Herd provided a quieter, low-impact way to manage vegetation along water edges, slopes, and naturalized areas while improving visibility, helping golfers find balls in the rough, and becoming a memorable part of the course experience.
Tell us about your land, the vegetation challenge, and what you hope to achieve. We'll help determine whether prescribed grazing may be a good fit.
